What is PA / Nylon (unfilled) used for?
Gears, bearings, hinges, tool and machine parts
+ Pros
Very tough, abrasion resistant, low friction, high heat and chemical resistance, excellent layer adhesion
– Cons
Absorbs up to ca. 10 % water (bubbles!), strong warping, fumes → ventilate, for experienced users
Printing tips at a glance
- Nozzle temperature: approx. 260–285 °C – start in the middle of the range on a new spool and fine-tune with a temperature tower.
- Bed temperature: approx. 100–110 °C.
- An enclosed chamber is strongly recommended, otherwise expect warping and layer cracks.
- Drying: ≥ 4 h below 90 °C; store airtight. Wet filament shows up as crackling, stringing and rough surfaces.

Frequently asked questions
What nozzle temperature does PA / Nylon (unfilled) need?
Guideline for PA / Nylon (unfilled): approx. 260–285 °C nozzle and approx. 100–110 °C bed temperature. The exact values are printed on the manufacturer's spool.
How heat resistant is PA / Nylon (unfilled)?
Heat deflection temperature (HDT) is around approx. 111 (CoPA, annealed) °C. Above that, loaded parts start to deform.
Does PA / Nylon (unfilled) need to be dried?
Recommended: ≥ 4 h below 90 °C; store airtight.
Do I need an enclosure for PA / Nylon (unfilled)?
An enclosed chamber is strongly recommended, otherwise expect warping and layer cracks.
Values are guidelines from manufacturer datasheets (Polymaker, Bambu Lab, Prusa). They may differ by manufacturer, colour and print settings.
